Day 5 - Guitar Exercise for Finger Independence and Control

The title says it all.  I remember reading a lesson similar to this in a Guitar World magazine back in the early '90s.  It was written by Vernon Reid, who at the time was playing some really unorthadox, jazzy licks with his band Living Colour.

This lesson might be a little better because it's on video.  One suggestion: maybe once a week, try these out with a metronome.  It will help your sense of rhythm and help you discover if you've made any small improvements.  The "awkwardness" that he talks about can be quantified, and it's a great feeling to know you've made true progress.

Day 2 - Rock Rhythm Guitar Exercise

Paul Gilbert is one of the all time best rock players.  Here, he shares a rhythm exercise that is fun and easy.

For an extra challenge, try not to play the same fill lick twice.  All players have some "stock licks" that they play when there is a quick opening in the music. Try to come up with something new and fresh.

Day 1 - Gypsy Guitar: Minor Swing Arpeggio Exercises

Gypsy jazz is a wonderful and challenging genre that intermediate players can dive into for immediate improvement in all areas of playing.  Here is a simple "monkey see monkey do" lesson that will help improve your dexterity, fretboard awareness, and music theory.

FWIW: Tim Robinson has one of the best lesson websites around.
